Discovering Venice: The Church of Miracles

In a quiet corner of Cannaregio, near Rialto Bridge, there is a small 15th century church named “Santa Maria dei Miracoli”.  It is one of the most interesting religious buildings of Europe. The church was built in 1480 to house the image of the Virgin, known as “Miracles”. The architect who built the church was Pietro Lombardo(1435-1515), a Venetian craftsman who built this amazing building in such a small area. Small but perfectly proportioned, this jewel of the Renaissance has been compared by someone, as a big tomb with a dome on the top, on the ceiling. The interior of  the church “Santa Maria dei Miracoli”, instead, is finely decorated with colored marble reliefs and on the altar you can admire the miraculous image of the Virgin.
